The Ministry of the Armed Forces, through Minister Florence Parly, announced the official order for the 5th Barracuda nuclear attack submarine of the Suffren class , for the French Navy, which will have the baptismal name “Casabianca”. The first ship of the class, the Suffren, will have experienced some industrial delays, delaying the delivery of the submarine, initially planned for 2012, then 2015, to 2020. The second ship, the Duguay-Troin, should enter service in 2021 , then a ship will be delivered every 2 years. Replacing the SNA Rubis, the Suffren will significantly strengthen French submarine capabilities, being more than twice as bulky as the rubies, and being able to use MdCN cruise missiles.
At the same time, Me Parly also announced the launch of the program aimed at bringing the fleet of French and German Tiger helicopters to the Mk3 standard , including strengthening the survivability of the aircraft, and a new weapons system using a new anti-tank missile including implementation will be entrusted to MBDA. This new missile will allow cooperative firing, and it seems reasonable to think that the Mk3 Tigers will be able to interact finely with the multiple drones that will operate on the battlefield of tomorrow, especially since the objective of this standard is to allow the Tiger to remain effective until 2040.
