The French Navy has just announced the order for 14 landing craft. EDA-S, for Standard Amphibious Landing Craft”, from the company CNIM. These units will replace the antique CTMs which entered service between 83 and 92.

Concretely, 9 of the new EDA-S will be deployed in Toulon within the Naval Action Force, to equip the amphibious helicopter carriers (it's hard anyway... nda) alongside the 4 EDAR (Engins de rapid amphibious landing) already in service, while the other 6 will be deployed in the French Overseas Territories, alongside the B2M.

The first units are expected for 2020.
