In 2013, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Choigou proposed the idea of developing a research technology center dedicated to the armed forces, in which young graduates could perform their one-year military service. This center, called Technopole de Recherche Militaire Era, was established near the seaside town of Anapa, on the Black Sea coast, not far from the Kerch Pass separating the Black Sea from the Sea of Azov, and is expected to reach its full potential this year.
According to the Russian authorities, this center will be dedicated to 6 areas of research : the design of small spacecraft, such as micro and nano satellites, the application of new physical principles for the design of weapons, geo-information tools, hydroacoustic detection and artificial intelligence.
The objective pursued in this project is to design an attractive framework for young Russian engineers and researchers, often candidates for emigration, while taking advantage of the dynamic that such a framework generates.
