US Navy MQ-25 Stingray Drone Makes First Flight

Boeing announced on September 20 that the embedded stealth drone MQ-25 Stingray had made a first flight at Saint-Louis airport, where the device is being developed.

This drone, intended to embark on US Navy aircraft carriers, is specialized in in-flight refueling operations near engagement zones, and will significantly increase the range of action and autonomy on objective of the F/A18 E/F Super Hornet and F-35C Lightning II which will equip the US Navy's embarked air groups in the years to come.

With the development of new anti-ship missiles, with increased range and precision, aircraft carriers are now forced, and will be even more so in the near future, to operate at greater distances from engagement zones.

However, the aircraft forming the carrier group were designed and optimized to have an operational range of 750 to 1 km, which, today, appears insufficient in view of the precautions to be taken.
