A few months ago, we introduced you to details the new F4 standard of the French fighter Rafale, produced by Dassault Aviation. In addition to notable improvements in sensors, connectivity and logistics, the Rafale F4 also had to integrate new air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons. If the MICA-NG and the renovated SCALP are based on known weapons, the 1000 kg AASM developed by Safran is indeed a completely new ammunition.
For several years now, models of the AASM-1000 have been on display at various aeronautical shows and exhibitions. Since the launch of the F4 program in January 2019, however, there has been no news of this new powered bomb intended to replace the GBU-24 of American origin under the wings of the Rafale. Until today, however, when a photo of a Rafale equipped with a pair of AASM-1000 was unveiled on social networks, notably on the Twitter account of Defense'Aero.
