Franco-British ANL / Sea Venom anti-ship missile ready for service

This November 17th, the Direction Generale de l'Armement proceeded, on the test site of the island of Levant in the Var, to the ultimate test of the Anti-Ship Light missile, or ANL, designated Sea Venom in Great Britain, paving the way for its admission to service in the French Navy and the Royal Navy. This missile is one of the joint projects between France and Great Britain launched on the occasion of the Lancaster House chords signed in 2010, with the FMAN / FMC anti-ship and cruise missile et the MMCM mine warfare program, which also just passed a decisive stage a few days ago.

The ANL is a light missile of 110 kg for 2,5 meters in length and 20 cm in diameter, intended to equip frigate helicopters AW159 Wildcat of the Royal Navy and H160M Guepard of the French Navy, with a view to giving them an anti-ship capability at a safe distance against light or medium ships. It was designed by the French and British teams of the company MBDA, to provide flexibility, firepower and safety to the frigates and helicopters they embark on. With a range of 20 km, the missile carries a military charge of 30 kg sufficient to inflict significant damage on corvette or patrol type ships.
