The US Army presents its 6 priorities to meet the Chinese and Russian challenge in 2030

Until recently, the US Army relied on two pillars to prepare for future military challenges. On the one hand, it was fully involved in the Joint All-Domain Command-and-Control doctrine, or JADCC, intended to allow enhanced interoperability between its units, but also with other American armies such as the US Air Force or the US Navy, as well as with its allies. On the other hand, it had committed itself, during the previous term of office, to the development of a super-program called BIG-6, in reference to the famous BIG 5 super program of the early 70s, which notably gave birth to the Patriot system, the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle or the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. If involvement in the JADCC doctrine remains a priority, the war in Ukraine and the tensions around Taiwan have gradually relegated the BIG 6 to oblivion, replaced by a cluster of programs called the 35 Signatures, priority programs for the modernization of many equipment inherited for the most part from the Cold War, in particular those belonging to the BIG 5. However, there was a lack of a strategic axis bringing coherence to these efforts around precise and temporalized qualitative objectives. This is precisely what Christine Wormuth has just done., the Secretary of the Army, during a lecture given at Fort Benning as part of the Maneuver Warfighter Conference.

One thing is certain, the lessons of the war in Ukraine have obviously been largely taken into account in this strategy, which is based on qualitative objectives to be achieved by 2030, i.e. when the Army People's Liberation, its navy and air force, will have the power required to eventually carry out military action against Taiwan. These objectives are 6 in number, ranging from intelligence to command, from firepower to stealth, and from coordination to logistics, and effectively provide overall coherence to the efforts that the US Army will have to provide to meet the challenges. Chinese in the Pacific, as well as the Russian challenge in Europe.

To cope with the means available to the People's Liberation Army at the beginning of the next decade, the US Army must profoundly rethink its doctrines and its means.

First, the US Army will have to have more extensive, more efficient and denser Intelligence and Observation capabilities, allowing it to permanently observe the movements of its adversaries, the composition of the forces and the means at their disposal. . This pillar will be based on several programs aimed at providing the US Army with multi-domain observation means across the entire visual and electromagnetic spectrum, at all levels, but also means for analyzing the data produced and the convert it into information that can be used by the American military. This component has shown all its effectiveness within the framework of the high-intensity engagement in Ukraine, having played a role that one imagines decisive in the Ukrainian resistance against the very superior firepower of the Russian armies.
