Hyundai Rotem unveiled the configuration chosen for the K2PL, a Polonized version of the K2 tank, in Kielce at the 2025 autumn motor shows. The information confirms that Warsaw is not just buying a "transitional K2," but a reinforced standard one, equipped with anti-drone protection and an active protection system.

The challenge is twofold: to quickly fill the capability gap created since 2022, while initiating an "intermediate" generation of tanks, more survivable in the face of current threats. Therefore, industrial and technical news serves as a litmus test here: to what extent does this modified K2PL prefigure the future Polish armored fleet?

Towards a fleet of 360 K2s including 64 K2PLs by 2030

According to Janes, Poland signed a second executive contract on August 1, 2025, for an additional 180 K2s: 116 units in K2GF (Gap Filler) configuration to be delivered in 2026–2027, then 64 in K2PL standard between 2028 and 2030. Added to the batch of 180 K2s signed in 2022, the fleet will therefore reach 360 tanks under contract, with a gradual switch to a specifically Polish configuration. This sequencing is consistent with the operational urgency observed since 2022, then the planned upgrade after 2027.
