On March 17, 2026, during the National Defence Industries Conclave in New Delhi, the Indian Navy announced the launch of the Sovereign Quantum Radar project under the ADITI 4.0 Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX program. Presented by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the initiative aims for a next-generation sensor for target detection in contested environments. The government has opened funding of up to 25 crores of rupees for a start-up or a micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) capable of developing the concept, with a tight timeline and rapid milestones.

The roadmap sets the assembly of a functional prototype for May 4, 2026. The issued guidelines require operation at sea under challenging conditions, with heavy rain, thick fog, and sea spray. The system must integrate with existing Combat Management Systems (CMS) to provide real-time tracks to the tactical network. This operational coupling and the timeline constraint place significant pressure on candidate teams, especially MSMEs, which will need to validate robustness, safety of operation, and interoperability in a short time.
